Why Nuclear & Not Green Energy?
By Syed Akbar Ali
Well of all people the Singapore Business Times has reported that our Tenaga Nasional Berhad (which is a GLC owned by the taxpayers) has decided to build a nuclear power plant in the country.
How come we the citizens of this country did not know of this decision by TNB? Its not just any power plant but a nuclear power plant. It can have a significant impact on all our lives – especially if it blows up or is blown up.
What inspired me to write this post? It all thanks to Mr. Syed Akbar Ali's post of "Nuclear Power For Malaysia?". His post touches about the danger of nuclear power plant, the danger of the nuclear waste, the doubt about whether we have the expertise to handle all these nuclear things & also the doubt of whether we have place to conceal the nuclear waste. Basically, I agree with what he has said in his post.
So, if we choose to build nuclear power plant, can TNB guarantee something like Chernobyl will never happen? Can they guarantee those nuclear waste can be handle properly withouht causing any harm to anything around? Any mishandling or accident will create nuclear explosion(you will never know evethough scientist & engineer said the risk for it to happen is is low) or vast radioactive contamination. All these will threaten people's life & also our country's economy.
Furthermore, heat generated & the gas realeased by nuclear power plant contributes to global warming. Now the Earth is sick enough, do all this people intend to add more pain to our Earth & send another few more species of animals & plants into extinction & also killing a few more people due to change in climate patterns that was caused by global warming?
Besides that, do our Peninsula have the place for this plant? Don't tell me they want to build it near some kampung or bulldoze some forest for it. If they really build it, where they want to conceal all the nuclear waste? Nuclear waste can remain radioactive for 10 000 years & have to be concealed deep in the earth. Do we have the place to conceal it? Don't tell me that they wan to dispose the nuclear waste into the sea or just throw it in some landfill or just simply bury it in some place. All this will not be a problem if you don't mind that they are doing it just behind your house.
By the way, I heard & read in the news that nuclear can create cheaper energy than currently use fossil fuels huh? Yes, it may be cheap but when something happens then it won't be cheap. Not only so, all this nuclear materials such as uranium & plutonium will also face depletion because nuclear materials are non-renewable, similar to fossil fuels. According to calcualtion, uranium & plutonium supply are enough to last for "at least a century" at current consumption rates. So, when uranium & plutonium are running out, what next? Another few hundred million or billion?
Instead of spending so much money now & then, why not just invest in green energy? Government spend a lot now on R&D in local university & local research centre or buying equipments or import techology from other countries or invite foreign R&D company or encourage local company to produce or do all those togather, the benefits may not be seen immediately but in long term, our country can save a lot of money as maintaining cost for green energy power plant plant is less than fossil fuels & nuclear power plant. We will save even more as our country is free from the imapact of global oil price, in the same time, we are generating cheaper electric power which will benefit the people & our country's economy. Don't forget that by doing so, Malaysia is doing something good for Mother Earth & also save millions of life on Earth.
Another plus point for government to invest & using green energy is that hundred thousand or maybe a million or two of jobs will be created. This is due to more people will be needed by research centre & factory for producing & researching green energy generator. Not only that, green energy power plant will also need people for maintaining & operate it, thus creating even more jobs for our people. With so many people able to get a job, it also means our country definately will have a strong & bustling economy as more jobs mean more people will spend money on buying things & services.
As you can see, the benefits from green energy totally outweight the nuclear energy. Why still nuclear? I hope the people in charge can think twice again as those are the people's money.

Why Firefox?
As I had abandaoned IE(Internet Explorer) for some time, I had never want to know a thing about IE. Why? Because Firefox is really a great browser. What so great? Let me tell you all more.
For those who don't know what is all this Firefox about, basically Firefox is a free open-source web browser by Mozilla Corporation. I had been using Firefox for nearly a year & until now, I'm very happy with the browser performance.
So, lets compare IE & Firefox.
Security
An independent study shows that, in 2006, IE users were vulnerable to online threats 78% of the time. Firefox users? Only 2%. To make it simple, exploit code for critical unpatched security vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer was available for 284 days in 2006. In comparison, exploit code for critical security vulnerabilities in Firefox was available for 9 days before Mozilla shipped a patch to remedy the problem. As of April 23, 2009, Firefox 3 has no security vulnerabilities unpatched according to Secunia. Internet Explorer 7 has nine security vulnerabilities unpatched, the most severe of which was rated "moderately critical" by Secunia.
Not only so, because IE is so incorporated into Windows, it make things more worse or easier if any attack or installation of anything into your computer occur.
Web Browsing
It loads a page much faster than IE. Its handling of multiple images and videos on webpages is better than IE too. There are certain parameters called 'Table rendering time' and 'CSS rendering Time' that play a big role in loading of a page and these timings are lesser for Firefox as compared to IE.
The most important is IE don't work well or function properly on every website. One of those web is my blog. When I use IE to open my blog, it just stop while my Firefox doesn't give me any problem.
Memory Space
Firefox take lesser memory space compared to IE.
Additional add-on
Firefox can install a lot of add-on which can make your browsing smoother while IE has limited.
It loads a page much faster than IE. Its handling of multiple images and videos on webpages is better than IE too. There are certain parameters called 'Table rendering time' and 'CSS rendering Time' that play a big role in loading of a page and these timings are lesser for Firefox as compared to IE.
Verdict
The most important thing that make me choose Firefox is its stability & security. Firefox hang less & even it did hang or crash, it won't make your system to go crashing or hang. It will just restart back normally.
As for security, I'm totally in peace of mind as Firefox really did very well by updating any flaws they found nearly immediately. Until now, those people who has been strike by malware & spyware, most of them are IE user as IE is an easy target for all these junks. Besides that, it blocks nearly all the annoying pop-up ads, making my net surfing journey near perfect.
As conclusion, Firefox beat the hell out of IE. IE sucks but I have to use it when some stupid government website can only function under IE. Sien.
ps: I will try to post about the comparison between browser in my next post.
Najib - 45%
From the latest finding by Merdeka Center for Opinion Research that was released yesterday, 1 June 2009, Malaysian No.1 concern is the economy of the country.
This survey is part of an on-going poll conducted from the time Najib took office as PM, and closed by the time AH1N1 arrived.
During the whole survey period, Dato' Seri Najib's approval rate has never breach or even touches the 50% barrier. His worst approval ratings had been 34%, in July 2008, and the March 3-9 period in 2009. But, through statistic, his approval rating has since then increase. This is more or less the effects of his on-going image rebulding mission.
The poll was carried out between 6th-15th May & the poll has a margin of error estimated plus minus 3.10%. You can have a look of the findings here.

Expandable Post for Blogger
For those who often pay a visit to my blog will realised that I had changed some stuffs in my blog & 1 of the most obvious changes is the expandable(Read More) post. This is a 'hack' that I get to learn from other blogger.
With this hack, you can choose to display a selected amount of text from the beginning of each post as a teaser/summary instead of showing the entire post on the front page of your blog. This will make reader easier to go through & select you other posts.
Actually, there are a lot of people already showing the way how to do it but I will still say it here. After all, there is no harm spreading knowledge. :D So, there will be 5 easy steps to make all these possible.
Ok. lets begin.
Step 1
- Go to Layout & then 'Edit HTML'.
- Back up your template.
- Expand widget template
Step 2
Now, find
head/
then place the code from page above it.
Step 3
Step 4
Go to Setting then Formatting & put the words below into 'Post Template'. Please change the ' ( ' in front of the code into ' < ' .
Type your summary here
(span id="fullpost">
Type rest of the post here
(/span>
Step 5
DONE!
By now eveything is done but changes will only appear in your new post & not your previous posts. If you want to let your previous posts to have this function then you have to do it manually by putting below the sentences that you want to show as summary & put at the end of the post.
I think that's it for now. Happy blogging ^^

Constitution of Malaysia
... important parts of the original Constitution, such as jus soli (right of birth) citizenship, a limitation on the variation of the number of electors in constituencies, and Parliamentary control of emergency powers have been so modified or altered by amendments that "the present Federal Constitution bears only a superficial resemblance to its original model. -DR. SHAD SALEEM FARUQI
We all know that The Federal Constitution of Malaysia is the supreme law of Malaysia but do you know how many times did the constitution being amended?
As of early 2008, the number of individual amendments to the constitution is estimated to be about 670. Well, excluding a few amendments that were made to let Singapore gain independence, the amount of amendment will not go lower than 640 times.
Look at the amount of amendment that was made since our country independence, Malaysia for sure outpace nearly most of the country in the world for the amount of amendment that was made, even United States of America also lose because US amended her constitution for only 27th times.
Frankly speaking, certain amendment I do support such as the amendment which strip off the royal family's immunity from being charge or sue for their misdeed. This is good but as for the other amendments, I can say that they amend to accommodate their own interest instead of the rakyat interest, in short, abuse of power. The most serious case is the amendment that was made in 1988 that put judiciary under Parliament's influence.
All I can say is that most of the roots of unrest & havoc in this country started from the amendment of constitution. We should always be vigilant whenever a law was enacted or amended because any law that was enacted or amended will affect us in some ways. If it doesn't favor the rakyat, tell those in charge through any channel you can. Don't accept it blindly. We should dictate our country destiny because our country practice democracy where people is the master.
Below are the major & most controversial amendments that were ever made in Malaysia history.
Sensitive Matters Amendment
One of the most controversial amendments in Malaysia’s Constitution is the Constitution (Amendment) Act, 1971, which came in the wake of the May 13, 1969 racial riots.
Known as the “Sensitive Matters Amendment,” it revised Article 10 – which safeguards freedom of speech – to empower Parliament to pass laws to restrict public discussion on four “sensitive” issues: citizenship; the national language and the languages of other communities; the special position and privileges of the Malays and natives of the Borneo states, and the legitimate interests of other communities; and the rulers’ sovereignty.
Before the Act, the Conference of Rulers’ consent was required only for amendments to provisions related to the rulers, and the special rights and privileges of the Malays and the legitimate interests of other communities.
As a result of the Act, consent was also required for other provisions, such as Article 10 (freedom of speech), Article 63 (privileges of Parliament), Article 72(privileges of the state legislative assembly) and Article 152 (national language).
Article 153 originally provided for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to be the guardian of the special position of the Malays and the legitimate interests of other communities. It also empowered him to ensure that a reasonable proportion of opportunities was reserved for the Malays in public service, education, and for permits and licences.
The 1971 amendment allowed the natives of the Borneo states to have the same status as the Malays.
It also empowered the Agong to direct any institution of higher learning to reserve a reasonable proportion of places for the Malays and natives, should the number of places be less than the number of qualified candidates.
Judiciary
Another milestone in the Constitution’s evolution was the amendment to Article 121 in 1988, which effectively put the judiciary under Parliament’s influence. The attorney-general was also empowered to determine the courts for cases to be heard.
To the legal fraternity and civil society, this eroded the judiciary’s autonomy and weakened the separation of powers between the three branches of government – the judiciary, the executive and the legislature.
The amendment came in the wake of a series of court cases where the executive accused the judiciary of encroaching on its powers. These cases included a court ruling overturning the government’s decision to revoke a foreign correspondent’s work permit, judicial reviews of ministerial decisions such as the award of the North South Highway project to UEM, and the declaration of Umno as illegal following a dispute over the party’s election in 1987.
Then Lord President, Tun Salleh Abas, and several judges, wrote a letter to the King about the efforts to undermine public confidence in the judiciary. He was charged with writing the letter without the approval of all the judges and displaying bias against the government, and was dismissed in August 1988.
Five Supreme Court judges who objected to the tribunal set up to decide Salleh’s fate were suspended. They were the late Tan Sri Wan Suleiman Pawanteh and Tan Sri Eusoffe Abdoolcader, Tan Sri Azmi Kamaruddin, Tan Sri Wan Hamzah Salleh and Datuk George Seah.
After Salleh’s dismissal, a second tribunal was convened to deal with the five judges, resulting in the dismissal of Wan Suleiman and Seah, while the others were acquitted.
Another amendment in 1988 resulted in Article 121 (1)(A), which stipulated a separation of jurisdictions between the civil and syariah courts, whereby the former would have no say over any matter under the syariah court’s purview.
“The amendment left many unanswered questions. It was done with good intentions so that only lawyers trained in syariah law would handle syariah issues,” Shad said.
“However, it does not offer a solution when one party is a non-Muslim, when there are international implications, if it is a constitutional issue and involves a remedy which the syariah court has no right to grant such as habeas corpus and mandamus (the domain of the High Court).”
In recent years, there have been cases where a non-Muslim party to a case has been told to seek recourse at the syariah court.
“The civil courts have started to abdicate or cede jurisdiction when there is the slightest whiff of an Islamic issue,” Shad said.
“The syariah court has broken the dyke, the civil court has looked the other way.”
'Unfaithful' Chinese press
Just not long ago he said the non-Malays was ungrateful even after benefiting from so many 'goodies' but now he said that his words were misquoted & had been twisted by the Chinese press.
DPM, you are so fake!
Imbas KembaliQ.
Read the whole thing above properly. Do you think his words had been twisted?

'UNGRATEFUL' CHINESE & INDIANS
Below is 1 of the Q&A between our Deputy Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin & Mingguan Malaysia reporter for the column “Kuasa penentu Melayu hilang jika terus berpecah”
Muhyiddin’s interview has been carried in the Chinese newspapers yesterday, with headlines like “Muhyiddin – Chinese ungrateful to BN” (Sin Chew); “Chinese fooled Barisan Nasional. Muhyiddin – Get benefits but do not vote in support” (Nanyang); “BN feels tricked. Muhyiddin - Satisfy Chinese demands still no support” (China Press).
In the system of democracy, if you perform well, bring progress to the people & treat everyone equally, obviously people will be grateful towards you & want you to continue to serve them by voting you back & it will be the other way round if you did the opposite way. This is just part of natural selection in democracy.
Our 'beloved' DPM even dare to say that the non-Malay still won't vote BN even millions of ringgit were pour in during election. Come on la! What's the use giving sweet last minute. You all should had given sweet & keep giving long before that. Like what our parents & teachers like to say, study last minute won't bring you success. Such a easy common sense also he don't know. I really don't know how he can become DPM. Furthermore, those money that BN government gave is actually the tax payer money. So giving them money which is actually theirs can't be consider ungrateful.
From how Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin answered, we know that those people in BN or more specific UMNO still haven't learn their lesson even after undergoing March 8 political tsunami & losing nearly every post March 8 by-election. If they still persist & continue with this attitude, I believe that by the next general election they will either suffer greatly or totally being eliminated from Malaysia political scene. Don't forget that this country is a country that practice democracy where 'demo' means people & 'cracy' means power. We, the people don't owe you politician anything but you owe us something & you must be grateful towards us because we vote you in & in exchange, you must serve us .
Remember, serve us now before we serve you out!
